The upward trend in the Colombo bourse continued resulting in the main index, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) to end 1.73% (95.18 points) higher over last Fridays’ close. The Milanka Price Index (MPI) climbed by 3.05% (155.48points) whilst the S&P SL 20 Index gained 1.43% (42.69 points) for the day. The ASPI, MPI & the S&P SL20 closed the day at 5,592.03 points, 5,248.84 points & 3,035.52 points respectively.
Market turnover for the day was LKR 1,894.68 Mn, generated over a volume of 136.86 Mn shares. The top turnover generators for the day were HVA Foods PLC (HVA), John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH),Sampath Bank PLC (SAMP), Pan Asia Banking Corporation PLC (PABC), and Colombo Land & Development Company PLC (CLND).
HVA Foods PLC (HVA) traded heavily during the day and ended the day as the highest turnover generator with a turnover of LKR 125.96 Mn. HVA traded at a low of LKR 14.20 and a high of LKR 18.00 before ending 25.53% (LKR 3.60) higher at LKR 17.70.
Investor interest for the JKH was persistent. The counter was among the highest contributors to the total turnover. JKH traded at a low of LKR 200.00 and a high of LKR 205.00 before ending the day at LKR 204.70, rising by 2.35% (LKR 4.70).
The banking counter, Sampath Bank PLC (SAMP) ended the day at LKR 205.10, rising by 5.86% (LKR 9.50) over the previous close. SAMP generated a turnover of LKR 62.10 Mn over a volume of 304 k shares.
Foreigners ended the day as net buyers with foreign purchases worth of LKR 166.74 Mn against foreign sales worth of LKR 127.89 Mn resulting in a net inflow of LKR 38.85 Mn.
